Rochelle Drudge
Violin, Camp Coordinator
Rochelle grew up in Winnipeg and has worked as a music pedagogue and music program director in Winkler, MB since 1993, with one year teaching music in Loma Plata, Paraguay. Her musical involvements have included teaching private and group lessons in violin, piano and theory, directing children’s choirs and student string ensembles, and performing as a collaborative pianist, violinist and violist in various ensembles and settings. She has also worked as a program developer and director since 2008, founding and directing Homeschool Harmony Choir (2008), Cadenza
Summer Music Week (2013) and (co-founding) Douglas Kuhl School of Music, a non- profit music school (2014). For the past decade Rochelle has been significantly involved in arts administration and program development as well as maintaining a private violin and piano studio. After 10 years as Artistic/Program Director of DKSM, Rochelle has stepped down from this role but continues to maintain a music studio of 40+ violin and piano students. Currently, one of her creative pursuits is developing an audiation/movement based curriculum for beginning violin students.
Rochelle holds a Bachelor of Theology from Canadian Mennonite Bible College (1992) and has studied music – mainly violin, piano and music pedagogy - in a variety of formal and informal contexts. Her teachers have included Jean Broadfoot, David Visentin, and Emmanuel Horch. A strong interest in music pedagogy has prompted exploration of several teaching methods, the most influential of these approaches (and mentors) being Edwin Gordon’s Music Learning Theory (Janna Olson, Gregory Chase), Body Mapping (Jennifer Johnson), and the study of techniques for improvisation (Christopher Azzara). Rochelle has three children, whom she homeschooled for 24 years (1999 – 2023), and all of whom have worked alongside her in the various music programs she has directed. Other interests outside of music include gardening, fermentation projects, and recipe creation.
