Virtual Extension Classes & Distinguished Guest Artist Series
A special part of restringing this year’s Academy is to provide our students with Virtual Extension Classes to expand their Rosamunde time beyond the Academy week in August. These include a class on Richard Strauss’ Don Juan orchestral audition excerpt and a composition competition (open to all composers aged 24 and under, deadline May 28, 2021) which will result in the virtual collaboration project piece for the Academy. You are invited to audit the Rosamunde Restrung '21 Distinguished Guest Artist masterclass series (all violin, viola and cello master classes) for a fee of $100. You will receive a schedule and zoom link prior to the Academy. For auditing options please contact us.

Andrew Wan (Montreal Symphony Orchestra concert master), Daniel Scholz (Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra principal viola), Brian Manker (Montreal Symphony Orchestra principal cello) and Meredith Johnson (Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra principal double bass) will show you all the tricks and how to avoid the traps so you have the tools you need to succeed! Participation in this class is available to Rosamunde Core and Pre-Professional Academy students.
COMPOSITION COMPETITION/VIRTUAL COLLABORATION EXTENSION CLASS
Congratulations Ari Hooker, winner of our Composition Competition! His piece "Divertimento semplice" will be featured in our virtual collaboration project and released Friday August 27, 2021.
Composers of the top 5 pieces received feedback on their entries from composer Mike Janzen via zoom at 7 p.m. CST on Monday June 14th. This workshop was available to all Rosamunde students and was open to the public.
Our 2021 Faculty includes Manitoba’s finest string pedagogues as well virtual guests such as Philadelphia Orchestra Concert Master David Kim, Montreal Symphony Orchestra Concert Master Andrew Wan and Montreal Symphony Orchestra Principal Cellist Brian Manker.
In pre-pandemic times, Rosamunde has taken place on Canadian Mennonite University’s beautiful campus, located in a quiet Winnipeg neighborhood adjacent to the Assiniboine Forest, boasting ample greenspace and numerous walking trails. CMU is an ideal home for our camp, with its spacious and well-appointed music facilities.
