virtual rosamunde 2020
How it works

Online instruction for CORE PROGRAM students (intermediate-advanced level, aged 10-22) will run from August 17-28.

Format for all classes (private lessons, master classes, technique classes, chamber coaching) will involve uploading and downloading videos for both teachers and students in addition to real-time sessions online. Technique classes in particular will have greater pre-planned structure than in past years. Please note that for students who have experienced difficulties with high speed internet, zoom offers a phone-in option which allows for a reliably continuous audio feed.

Chamber music coaching will be offered to students who are able to form their own groups. We encourage you to involve other members of your close community and family. Only one member of your chamber music group needs to be a Rosamunde student to participate in this element and all instrumentations are welcome. Students who are not able to form chamber groups (and those students wanting this element in addition to chamber music) will be involved in remote video collaboration projects.

Rosamunde Virtual 2020 will celebrate the life and music of Beethoven in the 250th anniversary of his birth. All core students will be offered a survey of his music. In addition, the violinists will study the 10 violin sonatas and the cellists the 5 cello sonatas. Violists will be able to choose their favourite quartets for study.

Instruction in improvisation/composition will be offered based on student interest. Please let us know if you would be interested in this possibility and we will be sure to include it.

Student and faculty orientation will begin in June, with preparation for some elements (e.g. video collaboration, chamber music, composition) likely beginning at that time. We will do everything possible to ensure that this program runs as smoothly as possible.

Although we never would have dreamt of creating Rosamunde Virtual 2020, we believe that many new skills and much growth will result. The relationships built in this context can have a lasting and positive impact throughout the following years. We are excited to embark on this new adventure with you and are looking forward to a truly inspiring and transformative experience for everyone involved.

Geared towards beginners aged 12 and younger. Students will learn about basic instrument upkeep and participate in daily technique and performance classes, violin or cello ensemble. It's designed to get young children excited about playing, teach them good technical habits, build confidence and help them develop a peer group of like-minded students for friendship and learning. Younger students (~8 years old and under; playing from Suzuki books 1 & 2, or RCM Gr. 1 and lower) will be more suited to the half-day program (9-noon). Mornings include snack time and percussion class with Victoria Sparks! The full-day program (9-4) is for students playing at a slightly higher level (Suzuki books 3-4 / RCM Grades 2-5) and mature enough to handle a full day of instruction (generally aged 8-12). Afternoons include chamber music, theory games, recreational time and some one-on-one instruction.
