JULIE SAVARD
Violin
Originally from Montréal, Julie Savard moved to Winnipeg in 2002 to join the first violin section of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.
Julie holds a Bachelor of Music in performance from McGill University and an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould Professional School of The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto where she studied under the tutelage of violinist Lorand Fenyves. She has performed in various ensembles across Canada and the United States including the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, National Ballet of Canada Orchestra, Kingston Symphony, Thunder Bay Symphony, Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, Manitoba Underground Opera and Toronto’s Esprit Orchestra.
Julie enjoys playing duets with her spouse and former principal second violinist of the WSO, Darryl Strain. The perform together regularly at events such as Music at the Millennium, Downtown Biz and 201 Portage Concert Series among others.
In addition to performing, Julie is passionate about teaching. She maintains an accomplished violin studio and her students have won top awards at music festivals, scholarship competitions and Royal Conservatory of Music exams.
When Julie is not busy teaching or playing the violin, she enjoys baking, taking horseback riding lessons working toward her English Rider Level 3 and spending time with her daughters, Émilie and Chloé.
