Arne-Christian Pelz

Arne-Christian Pelz will be joining us for the duration of the Academy.
One of the top-class cellists worldwide, Arne-Christian Pelz has made a name for himself with both his intense and heartfelt performances as well as his interest in pioneering new repertoire and art collaborations that have brought widespread attention. He regularly serves as guest principal cellist of top European orchestras and holds a permanent position as First Principal at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. As soloist he has performed solo concertos accompanied by symphony orchestras in the Berlin Philharmonie, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Konzerthaus Berlin, Gewandhaus Leipzig and numerous concert halls throughout Europe and the U.S.
Arne-Christian Pelz is a sought after soloist and chamber musician for international music festivals. He premiered his own arrangement of Bachs’ BWV 996 for five-string cello with live electronics at the Kissinger Sommer 2024. In April of 2024 he performed Dvorak’s cello concerto across Germany with the Neue Philharmonie Berlin.
His passion for dance collaborations led to performances at the Hatch House 2024 Festival together with world-class ballerina Ksenia Ovsyanick. On the occasion of the opening concert of Liedstadt-Hamburg Festival 2024, his arrangement of Mendelssohn Songs without Words, commissioned by the Tokyo Ballet in 2023, was performed live to air on German Classical Radio stations NDR and MDR.
Mr. Pelz is a professor at the Akademie für Kunste ASK Berlin and held a teaching position at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler from 2018-2023. He frequently teaches at international master classes, most notability in Wuxi/China in 2024.
Arne-Christian Pelz currently plays on an instrument by Alexandre Breton from 2017 and his five-string cello from Lockey Hill from 1792.
