A native of Alabama, Meredith Johnson is the Principal Bassist of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since 2004. He has performed throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe with numerous ensembles, and is a member of the six-time Emmy Award winning All Star Orchestra. In addition to his orchestral career, Meredith is an active teacher and clinician. He is the founder of Bassitoba, a Winnipeg based program that helps develop young double bassists, and has given masterclasses at several Canadian universities, the Eastern Music Festival and Penn State University. He is an active chamber musician and was the Principal Bassist of the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra from 2004-2013. He has also appeared with many of Manitoba’s premier ensembles, including the Agassiz Chamber Music Festival, GroundSwell and The Winnipeg Chamber Music Society. Meredith has performed as soloist with the WSO and with University of Manitoba Symphony Orchestra, and has been featured on CBC radio’s The Signal. Along with his duties with the WSO, he is a professional associate at Memorial University (NL), instructor of double bass at the University of Manitoba, and a member of the faculty of the Eastern Music Festival.
